The veterinary office hands over a price list at the worst possible moment. And a family that is already grieving has to decide what they can afford to feel.
We think that is a terrible thing to ask of someone, and it is a small enough amount of money to fix.
Most veterinary offices offer two or three options, and the names vary confusingly between providers:

Communal is often included in the euthanasia fee or costs very little. Private costs meaningfully more, and the gap grows with the animal's weight. Pricing varies widely by region and by provider, and a large dog can cost several times what a cat does.
That price gap is the entire program. It is also, for a family choosing between a cremation and a utility bill, completely decisive — and it is a decision that cannot be revisited later. Once a communal cremation happens, there is nothing to come back for.

People sometimes ask why an organization that works on harassment and addiction also handles pet cremation. The honest answer is that it is the same principle in a smaller frame: a person at their most vulnerable, facing a cost that determines whether they are treated with dignity. Grief over an animal is routinely dismissed — and the people dismissing it are usually not the ones who came home to an empty spot on the floor.
It is also, bluntly, the cheapest good we can do. A few hundred dollars, delivered in the right week, changes how a family remembers one of the worst days they will have.

No. There is no income verification, no application packet, and no means test. If you are asking, that is enough.
No. Any companion animal. Rabbits, birds, reptiles, horses, rats, ferrets — grief does not scale to the size of the animal.
Yes, and if you have the option, please do. Knowing what is arranged in advance takes one enormous decision off you at the worst possible moment. Veterinary hospice and euthanasia appointments are often scheduled a few days out; that is a good time to contact us.

No. You choose the provider, usually through your veterinarian. We work with whatever provider you and your vet are already using.
